Ecovision are very pleased to announce that we have recently been announced as winner of the Rushlight Ground and Air Power Award 2016.
The award is presented to the entrant who can demonstrate that they have made the most significant contribution towards the commercial exploitation of geothermal power, ground or air source heat pumps. The award is designed to celebrate and publicise the significant achievements in developing the technology and innovation behind the harnessing of ground and air source heat.
Now in their 9th year, the Rushlight Awards are a celebration and a promotion of new technology, innovation and best practice across the whole environment spectrum for organisations throughout UK, Ireland and internationally. Designed to highlight innovation, initiatives and the holistic environmental benefit of technologies that are most likely to or are already creating a stir in the market, they are a means of disseminating the successes to support further development.
The award recognized the Ecovision installation of a revolutionary 2MW GSHP, which now provides heat to a 16 acre glasshouse greenhouse, growing plants for the horticulture sector. Ecovision provided a full turnkey solution, with consultancy, design, installation and commissioning all the intellectual property and responsibility of Ecovision Systems Ltd.
Historically heat pumps have been restricted to a smaller scale, of approximately 500kW, and have required boreholes. With 95,000m of horizontal collector array, this installation will transform renewable heating with its size and capabilities. This innovation shows the true capabilities of heat pumps within commercial operations, no longer limited by size or scale.
Furthermore, the positive impact a GSHP of this scale will have on the environment will be extensive. In the first year, the amount of carbon produced by the business will be reduced by an estimated 858 tonnes. This is equivalent to a commercial passenger plane flying around the world approximately 186 times.
The judging was performed by an independent panel of recognized experts covering all the clean technology sectors drawn from academia, trade associations and institutes, independent experts and government departments. Clive Hall, Rushlight Awards commented: “Innovation is a key driver for growth across our green economy and beyond, helping us find new ways to manage our environmental footprint, reduce costs and help put our businesses on a more sustainable footing. It’s great to see so many organisations stepping up to this challenge, and I would like to congratulate the winners of the Rushlight Awards on their exciting new ventures.”
Ecovision would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone involved in undertaking a successful and innovative installation. We look forward to another successful year in 2016 and to the new opportunities and challenges it brings.
