How it works: The Air Source Heat Pump

Air source heat pumps are suitable for either indoor or outdoor installation giving greater flexibility to suit your individual requirements. With only limited electrical and plumbing connections to be made, the greater simplicity in installation also gives significant cost benefits over ground source systems.

Air-to-water heat pumps for indoor installation: Space saving due to use of a buffer tank that can be placed underneath the heat pump

Air source heat pumps use energy freely available in the ambient air and are able to provide heating at air temperatures as low as -20°C.

How does the Air Source Heat Pump get heat from the outside air?

Air source heat pumps operate in a similar fashion to ground source systems using temperature differentials in the outside air. The heat is extracted from the air, retained and then converted into high-grade heat to be released through underfloor heating, radiators and into the hot water tank.

The EcoVision air source heat pump range includes single and three phase units with heating capacities up to 28kW.

How is the UK's climate suited to the Air Source Heat Pump?

Compared with other European countries the UK has a relatively moderate winter climate. In Germany, air source heat pumps are very popular and are outselling ground source heat pumps.

With average UK winter temperatures of around 5°C, seasonal levels of performance comparable with ground source heat pumps are achievable, without the additional cost of ground loop systems having to be installed.
