Randwick Village Hall to Celebrate EcoVision Heat Pump

27th August 2008

Randwick Village Hall near Stroud, Gloucestershire will be reopening on Saturday 13th September to celebrate the installation of a ground source heat pump from EcoVision (www.ecovisionsystems.co.uk). The project received a 50% Government grant from the Low Carbon Buildings Programme Phase 2, a funding stream open to a wide range of not-for-profit organisations.

The installation which took place in August sees the village hall heated by a ground source heat pump which extracts heat from the ground and transfers the heat to the building. At Randwick a network of plastic pipes are buried in horizontal trenches in the adjoining playing field through which a mixture of anti-freeze and water circulates and absorbs heat from the ground as it passes through the pipes. The heat is then amplified by a heat pump and in Randwick Village Hall the heat will be pumped though high efficiency radiators produced by European manufacturer Jaga.

Val Flack, Secretary of Randwick Village Hall & Playing Fields Committee said, “We went to EcoVision because we knew they would install the system as well as supply it, and we also wanted to use local suppliers where we could. Stroud District Council were prepared to match funds with whatever else we could get. When we found that the Low Carbon Buildings programme would pay 50% of the ground source heat pump, it seemed like a good thing! Now we have a £71,000 project for the whole thing, and almost £69,000 in grants. It’s unbelievable!”

EcoVision’s Chief Executive Peter Randall said, “There are around 8000 village halls across the UK and many of those are missing the chance to reduce fuel costs and lower carbon emissions via a ground source heat pump. At the moment UK village halls and other not-for-profits can get up to 100% funding from the Low Carbon Buildings Programme Phase 2 along with the Community Sustainable Energy Programme (CSEP) – the CSEP programme was introduced after we began work on Randwick Village Hall. This 100% funding is a fantastic opportunity for organisations to contact EcoVision and explore the feasibility of heat pumps for their building.”

EcoVision is one of a very small number of UK companies that can offer the 100% grant and there are accredited under the Government’s Microgeneration Certification Scheme.
