First UK Village Hall to be Awarded 100% Heat Pump Grant

Rendcomb Village Hall near Cirencester, Gloucestershire has become the first village hall in the UK to be awarded a 100% grant for an eco-friendly heating system with low running costs and low CO2 emissions. The grants from the Big Lottery Fund and the Government’s Low Carbon Buildings Programme allow Rendcomb Village Hall to take ownership of the new ground source heat pump from EcoVision at no cost to themselves.

Peter Randall, EcoVision Chief Executive said, “The committee at Rendcomb Village Hall is really embracing the opportunity provided to them by the 100% grant. With very little capital outlay Rendcomb will have a village hall heated from the surrounding ground, resulting in lower fuel bills and vastly improved eco-credentials. This EcoVision project will be a green flagship to village halls and charities across the country.”

The Big Lottery Fund’s Community Sustainable Energy Programme was only introduced in April 2008 and so far has only awarded one village hall in the UK with a grant, however to date there has only been 1 round of grants awarded. It’s believed that this low take up is largely down to the low awareness of these grant programmes by village halls, charities, schools, churches and sports clubs.

Peter Randall added, “To have a 100% grant for a heating system that brings you lower running costs and lower carbon emissions is a fantastic opportunity and the more people that know about it, the better for everyone.”
