Key Points:
- Ground source heat pumps provide 325kW of heating and cooling
- Heat supplied from 50 x 112m bore holes
- Reversible heating and cooling through fan coils
- Passive cooling through underfloor system
Wyke College 6th Form Centre is one of the largest heat pump systems installed in a School in the UK with a total of 325kW.
The installation was designed by the Ecovision design team to include four seperate heat pump units linked through a control system. The heat pumps are all Dimplex and include 1 x 75kW and 1 x 100kW for heating and passive cooling through an underfloor pipe system; also 2 x 75kW reversible heat pumps operating the fan coil convectors via a heating and cooling battery.
The energy is supplied by 50 x 112m bore holes. The rugby pitch was cleared whilst the drilling took place, leaving the posts in place. The pitch will be ready for the next Rugby season.
“Ecovision were selected for the installation because of their technical knowledge and understanding of the building requirements. The design team have proved their capabilities with this project.”
