Around 1.5 million homes currently depend on heating oil in the UK. Most of these homes are in rural areas, off the gas grid.
Ground Source and Air Source Heat Pumps are the technology of choice for future heating systems. These will displace existing oil fired central systems in the process. By 2017, it is projected that ground and air source heat pumps will have overtaken heating oil. Oil fired central heating systems are set to all but disappear by 2025.
DECC has announced that the FIT rate for Solar PV systems exceeding 50kW will drop from May 1st 2013.
The cutoff off date is for Eligible Installations with an Eligibility Date on or after 1 May 2013 and before 1 July 2013 when they are likely to drop again
Invest now to ensure the current rate.
Energy costs are often in the spotlight. Many businesses and public sector organisations have already taken measures to cut energy consumption with an aim to reduce costs and improve their carbon footprint. Solar PV is one of the leading solutions available, especially favoured for its flexibility of installation in a wide range of different locations.
Over 1 million homes in Europe now have wood pellet boilers. Almost any home can be retrofitted with a wood pellet boiler, either as a stand-alone heat source, or as a primary heat source in conjunction with a secondary boiler which serves as back up.
According to the Energy Savings Trust a typical 3 bed semi-detached house could save £720 pa when compared to LPG and could also save 7.5 tonnes of CO2 compared to coal or electricity.
In many places around the country snow is on the ground and there is much more forecast for more of us. So you've swapped your incandescent light bulbs for energy savers, turned down the thermostat, and only wash clothes on cold. Then why are your utility bills still so high? Air leaks are likely culprits, but so are "phantom" power suckers, such as flat-screen TVs, which draw energy even when they're off.
Combine these steps you can do yourself with the installation of an efficient, money saving, renewable energy system and you will be able to see the benefits almost immediately.
As part of one of the biggest ever renovation projects at Kelmarsh Hall in Northamptonshire, Ecovision have put in place a renewable energy system in the form of a water source heat pump a vital measure in protecting the fabric of this Grade 1 listed building dating back to the 1700s.
Kelmarsh will also benefit not only from a reduced carbon footprint but also a 60% decrease in it's annual consumption of oil meaning that the investment will pay for itself in just 5 years.
We’ve made some changes to our homepage and added a few tools that we think will be of use to you: Because of the success of our unique Domestic Solar Calculator that has seen thousands of you work out how much income can be generated from a Solar PV system on the roof of your home we have done the same for Heat Pumps.
Next year will see the roll out of the Renewable Heat Incentive Tariff for domestic Air Source Heat Pumps. DECC has issued a statement outlining the proposed range of payments, we have taken the average rate of 9.2 and created the Heat Pump Calculator that you can find on the homepage.
From 1 November the FiT rate for residential installations up to 4kW will be cut, 4kW is typically a 16 panel system. It will also be cut for systems between 4kW-10kW. Commercial installs (10-50kW) also face a reduction. The new FiT rates will apply for eligible solar PV installations from 1 November 2012 to 31 January 2013 when it will be cut again. Those systems installed before 1 November will receive the 16p rate for 20 years.

Next week Southern Electric owner SSE will increase gas prices by 9 per cent. British Gas has also warned it may have to increase bills by an average of £130 before winter. This will take the average family’s dual fuel bill to a record high of around £1,400. Industry experts warn that it is inevitable that all of the major providers – British Gas, EDF, SSE, E.ON, Npower and Scottish Power – will announce a hike in their prices.
Proposals for the Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI) have today been published by the Dept. for Energy & Climate Change (DECC). Key proposals within the consultation are:
1. Indicative tariff ranges for air source heat pumps 6.9 - 11.5p/kWh
2. Indicative tariff ranges for ground source heat pumps 12.5 - 17.3p/kWh
3. Homeowners will receive payments over seven years for each unit of heat expected to be produced, whether it is actually generated or not.
Ecovision was once again a winner at the National Heat Pump Awards 2012 last night. The Awards dinner was attended by about 300 people from the industry and there were almost 100 entries for 10 categories of Awards.
From the 1st August the Feed-in-Tariff's timespan is also being reduced from 25 to 20 years for new solar installations. The FIT will also continue to be reduced by 3.5% every 3 months following the 1st August for new installations, meaning the sooner you install - the higher the FIT you receive, whilst the FIT you receive at the point of installing is guaranteed for the whole 25 years of the scheme.
Ecovision has developed a unique Solar Calculator, which will put to rest any ‘false’ savings calculations that unscrupulous companies have been claiming. There is nowhere else on the internet a consumer can quickly and simply work out how much their roof can earn and at what cost.
I'm not sure UK consumers yet fully appreciate what's about to hit them in terms of rising utility charges. Never mind higher oil prices. The carbon price floor alone will add 4pc to bills by 2015/16 warns Jeremy Warner, Assistant Editor in The Telegraph this week.
There has never been a better time to switch from an oil fired boiler to a heat pump.
Solar PV still offers attractive returns for consumers, in excess of many alternative investment products. Improving consumer understanding of solar PV and the Feed-in Tariff scheme is likely to be key to restoring healthy uptake levels. We are pleased that the policy framework is now on a more stable footing and are optimistic that this will signal a new dawn of consumer confidence in the microgeneration sector.MPC's Chief Executive Dave Sowden
The Supreme Court has rejected an appeal bid by the Department of Energy and Climate Change over cuts to the Feed-in Tariff scheme for solar PV.
Despite the cut in the tariffs last month, Ecovision prove that at 21p a solar installation still gives an excellent payback. Purchasing a £6k system will pay back better than putting £25k in the Bank.
A Conference Centre in Worcestershire has just received some excellent news. When the Directors asked Ecovision to install heat pumps they were unaware that within a few months they would be eligible for payments from the Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI), meaning that they would now be paid for every unit of heat they generate to heat the building.
Good news for all farmers who would like to install renewable energy systems but need to borrow to do so. Farmers can now benefit from the FIT tariff for a solar installation and the RHI for a heating installation, creating a significant profit over up to 25 years from their land and buildings.
Barclays Bank has created a £100 million fund designed to help farmers meet the costs of renewable energy initiatives.
